Investigation into sub-nm ion dynamics published in Nature Communications

I am excited to share that a work that was officially published in Nature Communications. If you want to read it, give it a look at this link.

In this study, my colleagues Ranadeb Ball, Lizhu Zhang and I probed how ions move in sub-nm hydrated spaces. It was a really fun work that showed the power of using techniques across multiple time and lengthscales. I sincerely hope that the three of us will continue to work together across our careers (and not just because they are wonderful people!) Consider the image below, modified from my thesis, where I sketch out many of the techniques used or considered during our studies.

Note that in this image, the acronyms stand for:

2D-IR: Two-dimensional infrared spectroscopy; MD: Molecular dynamics; BDS: Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy; TMP: transmembrane potential measurements; EIS/DS: electrochemical impedance/dielectric spectroscopy, 1H-NMR: Proton NMR.

There are many different physical phenomena that one can observe in sub-nm spaces, and so many different experimental techniques to observe said phenomena. We sadly do not have the time as scientists to master them all, so we should all become collaborators with people who are ready to learn the other interesting methods. I am excited to see how the community responds to this work.
